Tony Rodriguez, who was the first person to reach the scene of the crash, witnessed his wife Rudy Washington pulling Ruggs from the wreckage of Ruggs' Corvette. "We were first to arrive and when I attempted to prevent her from accelerating, she started pulling him out," said Rodriguez. After verifying that the two were fine, Rodriguez and his passenger, Johnny Ellis, both 47, raced over to 23-year-old Tintor's car. They smashed two front windows open and then attempted to lift the victim out of the vehicle, but the car burst into flames moments later. "I tried to help pull Tintor out, but her door was stuck," said Rodriguez who added that Tintor was still breathing. After the car was engulfed in flames Rodriguez declared that he as well as Ellis were unable to do more for Tintor and her dog, who was in the car as well. "I think I've failed." LA Police report that Ruggs was traveling at 156mph, before slowed down to 127mph before he crashed into Tina's car.
